Artist Statement:

I believe that photography is a reflection of one’s heart.

In fact, I do not like those travelling photos with pretty scenes and artificial captions. They just give me goose bumps. I like to capture people’s ideologies, the society’s dark side, the shadows under the trees and the moments that people usually unaware. When I see these photos, it is just like looking at my late grandpa’s eyes, is really touching. All these photos are about Macao, the city where we live. They are intended to add some sensibility to this gaming city, like having a layer of fat on lean meat.

I appreciate the chance of exhibiting my works at OX Warehouse. They are purely about me. I believe that destiny gave me this chance to show m\y motivation in photography, and the special relationship between me and my grandpa. I am very honored to introduce my grandpa to Macao audience. In technical terms, viewers are able to distinguish between digital and film photography. Film is not something mysterious, just one of many documentary media in the long course of history.

When you are at ease in any situation, you can capture a pure image. I hope to convey the message that reputation and wealth are not our ultimate goal. In order to capture a superior photo, one needs to cultivate a superior’s character. But the question we need to keep on wondering is “how”? I would consider this exhibition as an opportunity to improve my spiritual life, rather than showing off my individual talent.

My first child was born while preparing this exhibition. This joyful surprise and continuation of life seems to be the best way to echo with this exhibition.

Life is like a circle where ends meet and evolve without limit.
