PONTE DE LUZ

by CARMO CORREIA

Bridge of Light, by Carmo Correia, was published in 2013 upon a photo exhibition held in Oriental Foundation, Macau.

In the words of its author, “Since the second half of the 16th Century Macau has been a catalyst for building relations between China and Lusophone Countries.

Economic and cultural relations were created throughout history with other locations in Asia. Today historic evidences and traces of Portuguese presence, and Macau’s role, still exist.

India, Sri Lanka, Malacca, Thailand, Indonesia, East Timor, Japan and Macau, remain places where it is possible to find traces of the Portuguese in churches, fortresses, administrative buildings, urban planning, palaces and festivals.

This book intends to show both that past/present, creating an artistic illustration, showing how Macau served as a location for the spread of Lusophone culture throughout Asia. It still plays an important role today, which the People’s Republic of China considers a pivotal part of history - acting as a bridge between Chinese civilization and Portuguese-speaking countries.”
